When did ancient towns become "ancient" towns? The word "ancient" not only strengthens the history of the water town settlements in Jiangnan area, but also imperceptibly limits people's cognition and imagination. The future of the water town settlements is limited under the word "ancient", and becomes the "beautification of the past". With the title of‘New Lili Ideal’, this exhibition attempts to explore new ideals for the ancient town begining with  Lili - the‘water town living room’ under the integration strategy of Yangtze River Delta.

As a branch of 2021 Suzhou International Design Week, the exhibition is hosted by Lili Ancient Town and Urban China, and curated by Why Not Studio and Urban China. Starting from the unique natural and geographical conditions of Lili ancient Town, the exhibition focuses on the architectural form, seasonal scenery and lifestyle, and try to present its human-land relationship.  In the exhibition, we present diverse daily aesthetics in accordance with local conditions and nature by means of multimedia and re-design, which is actually contained in the social forms and social relations formed for thousands of years.
