Theme: Chasing Future
2023年，《城市中国》杂志、城市八部联合推出与杂志同名的对话型视频节目，是国内首个关注城市专业类话题的深度对谈节目。节目以城市研究者、城市话题爱好者，城市规划、建筑等行业从业者，城市开发企业、运营企业从业者，政府空间管理部门官员等群体为目标受众。区别于“一对一”传统采访类节目中偏重嘉宾自主发挥的方式，在内容上，《城市中国》视频节目将依托城市八部、城市中国研究中心（UCRC）持续、扎实的研究成果，以此作为嘉宾邀约和对谈的基础，将“批判性地对谈”作为一种城市研究方法，与嘉宾就城市前沿议题展开激烈地思想碰撞。与专注建筑、人文、土地开发等类型的视频节目不同，城市八部秉信城市应被视作为一个统一的整体，而非“条块分割、专业有别”的分裂体。这一信仰，使得本节目以敏锐地发现城市新议题为己任，以传播多元、跨学科的认知新视角与新观点为使命。
In cooperation with UrbanLab8, Urban China magazine released a mini talk show by the same title in 2023. It is the first professional urbanism talk show in China, with a wide target audience ranging from architects, urban researchers, planners and designers, urban development professionals, to urban enthusiasts, and government officials working in urban management. Instead of the more common one-on-one interviews where guests express their views on certain general topics, the Urban China series presents ‘critical conversations’ that are more focused, engaging and inspiring, basing on the newest studies from UrbanLab8 and the Urban China Research Center (UCRC). The discussions will in return contribute to their long-term researches. The show hopes to discover and bring in alternative, interdisciplinary perspectives into emerging urban issues, as UrbanLab8, the production team, believes that city should be read as an organic whole, rather than an elephant in the dark viewed from separate visions that existing talk shows about architecture, culture and urban development already offer.
《城市中国》视频第一季以“追逐未来”为主题，在中国城市化转型、社会文化变迁、技术突破等背景下，邀请来自不同领域的学者、设计师、开发者，共同探讨未来城市发展中的前沿、深度话题。在这一复杂、困惑、多变的时代，我们相信对话的力量和思维的价值，希望通过真实的交流和碰撞，为城市找到新的关于未来的思考路径与实践方向。
The theme of Urban China series 1 is ‘Chasing Future’, in which academics, designers, and practitioners from various fields are invited to discuss up-to-date, in-depth issues in the future development of Chinese cities under China's urban, social and cultural transformation, as well as technological advancement. In the age of complexity, perplexity and volatility, the team believes in the power of discourse and the value of thinking, and is devoted to finding new perspectives and practical pathways for urban practices through exchanges and debates.

Book: Future Community: Global Wisdom and Six Case Studies on Urban Regeneration
The publication in urban studies is compiled by Urban China and Enterprise Research Institute of Hangzhou Blue Lion Cultural Creativity Company. Bringing in its comprehensive methodology in urban studies, Urban China opens up a discussion on the idea of ‘future city’, raising questions on its theoretical development, historical context, and cross-disciplinary conceptualisation, putting forward case studies in China, Japan, Singapore, Canada, the Netherlands, France and so forth.
杂志：《城市中国》第93期《未来社区——中国式未来社区的批判性观察》
第93期杂志《未来社区》从时间、空间、自然、技术、组织这五个维度展开，对中国式未来社区进行批判性观察和讨论。试图解答：目前的社区存在什么深层问题（非表面现象）？什么样的社区（根本性标准）是属于未来的？我们又能用什么方法使未来的社区变得更好？本期内容在规划、建筑学科的基础上，也引入更多来自人类学、社会学、文化研究等领域的见解，以拓宽对这一概念的认知。
The 93rd Issue of Urban China hopes to present critical observations and discussions on Future Community through five dimensions – time, space, nature, technology, and organisation – while a series of questions have been raised and re-examined: What are the deep-seated problems in our current communities? What are the fundamental criteria of future communities? What methods could be introduced into future community practices? The issue also incorporates insights from anthropology, sociology, cultural studies, and other fields besides architecture and urban planning to broaden our scope into the subject.
从规划设计的视角来看，社区的未来有哪些可能性？人们能够从社区中汲取怎样的力量？当我们直面各类机遇和挑战，诸如人口结构变化、气候与公共卫生危机时，当前社区的空间、权利、组织存在着哪些问题？城市作为一个更大的系统又应如何实现足够的韧性？依托《城市中国》的海外观察员体系，我们希望通过三场线上沙龙对此展开探讨，提出关于未来社区的更多问题和反思。
Symposium: "Communities Towards the Future: Questions on Space, Rights, and Organization"
In terms of planning and design, what are the future potentials of communities? How can communities promote positive changes and personal growth? How can communities of today be improved in terms of space, rights, and organisation, when facing challenges and opportunities such as climate and public health crises, and changes in population structure? How can cities build resilience as a larger structure? Supported by the Urban China Overseas Observer programme, we hope to open up a discussion to provoke inquiries and reflections on the idea of future communities through a three-session online symposium.
