As cities grow increasingly competitive, urban space has emerged as a vital platform for shaping economic, cultural, and social value. Urban design serves as the driving force behind this transformation. Xiamen Urban Design Week(XUDW) underscores the importance of design in creating spaces that inspire and connect. The event, centered on "urban design", explores innovative approaches to enhancing spatial quality, aiming to meet the growing public demand for vibrant, livable urban environments.
Urban Lab 8, as an institution focused on urban research, excels at analyzing the mechanisms behind urban development through perspectives drawn from architecture, sociology, and the humanities. This aligns with Xiamen Urban Design Week’s focus on urban spaces and its pursuit of high-quality urban environments. During Xiamen Urban Design Week, the Urban Lab 8 team applied its specialized research methods to conduct a series of field studies, interviews, and research activities on Xiamen’s urban development, exploring emerging trends in Xiamen and other coastal cities in China.
城市竞争是世界竞争的主要形式，空间则是承载城市经济、文化和社会价值的核心载体，而城市设计正是塑造这一核心的关键。厦门城市设计周的意义正是在此凸显。该活动以“城市设计”为核心议题，通过剖析城市空间的多重构成要素，旨在探索提升空间品质的有效途径，以更好地满足市民对于高品质生活的向往与需求。
城市八部的研究聚焦于城市更新，试图从建筑、社会、文化等多维度揭示流量机制下空间发展的深层逻辑。厦门城市设计周对空间品质的严肃回应，与城市八部的研究视角高度契合。围绕城市空间，城市八部通过不同学科、视角，观察与探讨了城市发展的趋势动向。

Xiamen Urban Design Week 2023 held for one week with the theme “Urban Design and City Vision,” focused on innovative ideas and practices in urban development and governance. Urban Lab 8 was the exclusive research partner throughout the event, enhancing its visibility and impact.
During Urban Design Week, we conducted real-time on-site reporting in various formats, including text, images, and videos. After the event, we published transcripts of several expert speeches and provided a thoughtful third-party evaluation of the overall impact and significance of Xiamen Urban Design Week. These evaluations were shared through articles that garnered significant attention within the urban research community. This series of research, creation, and dissemination efforts has significantly enhanced the recognition of Xiamen Urban Design Week within China's urban planning and research fields.
2023年，首届“厦门城市设计周”以“城市设计与城市远见”为主题，为期一周，聚焦城市未来建设与治理的新理念与实践。八部团队作为唯一内容战略合作机构，全程深度参与，推动首届城市设计周在中国城市学领域的广泛认知。
以节事创办为契机，我们围绕厦门城市专题展开研究与观察，撰写8篇深度内容，联合9家专业媒体协作，开展现场报道和全网传播，并引发众多行业大V与媒体转发，进一步扩大了活动声量。
在设计周期间，八部团队通过演讲实录、专访与研究，将建筑、规划等多领域观点编织成城市设计的研究网络。从袁奇峰以中轴线探讨城市秩序，到李晓江关于绿色低碳与空间正义的前瞻洞见，从章明的跨界实践到Roberto Bannura对中国城市发展的独特观察，我们试图凝聚共识，为城市设计在存量时代的创新实践提供启发。

In 2024, the second Xiamen Urban Design Week focused on "The Modernization of Urban Villages' Governance." The seven-day event introduced an innovative approach of "From Venues to The Field," taking participants to urban villages like Huangcuo Tatou and Tangbian for on-site explorations, workshops, exhibitions, and forums. The initiative demonstrated how design can directly address real-world challenges and inspire practical solutions for urban transformation.
Urban Lab 8 participated throughout the event as a supporting research team, providing a comprehensive analysis of the key themes of Urban Design Week through 10 in-depth articles. We collaborated with six media partners to extend the event's reach and impact. In addition to documenting the activities in detail, we highlighted the shift of Urban Design Week from a peripheral topic to a central governance focus and from professional circles to a broader public audience. We also began defining the "Xiamen Model" as a valuable reference point, offering a systematic view of Xiamen's unique urban development, urbanization, and regeneration path.
In addition, Urban Lab 8 focused on public space development and the economic and inclusive aspects of the "Pan Property management Model" and provided an in-depth analysis of the governance logic behind the "EPC+O Model." Through "assemble and collage," we explored how urban villages could evolve from urban peripheries into key urban development drivers. These articles deliver cutting-edge insights and provide practical recommendations for the future of Xiamen Urban Design Week and urban renewal practices.
2024年，第二届厦门城市设计周以“城中村现代化治理”为主题，为期七天，创新性地提出“从会场走向现场”，走入黄厝塔头、湖里塘边等多个城中村进行实地考察、工作营、展览与论坛，探索设计如何回应真实需求。
作为支持媒体，八部团队全程参与，通过10篇研究与深度回顾文章，系统梳理城市设计周关键议题，并与6家合作媒体协作，在2023年的基础上进一步扩大行业影响力。我们不仅详细记录活动内容，还总结设计周从边缘空间到治理焦点、从专业走向公众的显著转向，初步提炼出具有讨论价值和参考意义的“厦门模式”，以系统化视角呈现厦门城市发展、城市化进程与城市更新的独特路径。
此外，八部聚焦公共空间构建、“大物业”模式的经济性与包容性，深入解读EPC+O模式背后的治理逻辑，并通过“叠合与拼贴”的多元视角，探讨城中村如何从城市边缘转型为反哺城市发展的重要载体。这些文章不仅持续输出前沿观点，更为厦门城市设计周的未来发展与城市更新实践提供了可操作性建议。
