·Exhibition Introduction
“未来社区”等城市发展概念影响日隆。城市规划、建筑、互联网等领域皆大肆讨论着“未来”。然而，“未来”本应是一个集体化的、严谨的主题，这也是“未来学”建构的前提。
‘Future Community’ is a trending concept in China’s urban development. The word ‘future’ has been frequently used in the discussions of architecture, urban planning, IT and internet industry, and fields alike. Behind the familiar word, however, ‘future’ is a deep concept that bears shared human ideals and systematic knowledge, which are also what ‘futurology’ or future studies are set out to investigate.
《城市中国》基于观察员计划（UCO）、国内外广泛的专家研究网络，以及城市中国研究中心（UCRC）长久以来的研究传统，试图从更加综合的城市学视角审视这一概念，以此弥补当前的讨论中“技术至上主义”、过度偏重空间建设、城市治理无从下手等不足之处。
As the curator of this exhibition, the Urban China magazine re-examines the idea of future from an urban perspective, using the research methodology developed by Urban China Research Center (UCRC) and benefitting from the Urban China Observer (UCO) programme – a broad network of international researchers, to provide a wider lens into the topic of future community. Thereby, we hope to point out the fact that the current discussions are aiming excessively at technological supremacy and putting too much emphasis on spatial approaches, while the importance of community governance is largely neglected.
《城市中国》发挥了“图解城市中国”的研究方法传统，将前人对“未来城市”的想象放在它们产生的具体时空条件下，发现它们大都是对彼时最棘手之社会现实的回应，也是融合了技术想象的集体期许的一种经典推演。
Using a diagrammatic method, the curation team studied a large number of precedents of ‘future cities’ in their context to find that most of them were created as responses to prominent social issues at their time and as shared prospects that featured technological imagination.
我们研究发现，尽管人们对“未来”的讨论散见于建筑、规划、科学技术、艺术、文学、电影等领域，但其范畴有且仅有三个维度——时间、空间、资本；三个关系——人与他人（火灾）、人与技术（洪灾）、人与自然（饥荒）。
These ‘future cities’, created in the form of architecture, urban plans, scientific and technological research, art, literature, film and so forth, has all been conceived through three dimensions – time, space, and capital, and all portraying three relations – that between people (fire), between men and technology (floods), between men and nature (famine).
据此，我们梳理人类对于“未来城市”想象的集体谱系，创作了一系列城市图解，试图将观众引入一场历史与未来的隐性对话。
A genealogy of ‘future cities’ is hence drawn among these shared imageries to create a series of diagrams that project the past into the future, and the future into the past.
本次展览，是受2021北京城市建筑双年展策展方邀请，以未来为题的一次公开展示。属于“2021北京城市建筑双年展规划分会场——未来﹒家园之城市共创展”板块。作为北京国际设计周产业合作单元的重要板块，2021北京城市建筑双年展以北京城市总体规划为指导，以“未来·家园”为主题，从城市、建筑、艺术、科技四个维度思考了人与自然之间的关系，为新时代、新议题的广泛探讨提供了平台与契机。
The exhibition was a public exhibition in the 2021 Beijing Urban and Architecture Biennale sub-venue (Future · Home: City Co-Creation). As an important partner unit of the Beijing Design Week, the theme exhibition of the 2021 Beijing Urban and Architecture Biennale takes Beijing's city masterplan as the subject and re-investigates the relationship between men and nature from four dimensions – city, architecture, art and technology, providing a new opportunity for public discussions in the new era.
