Multiple Participation in Community Micro-Renovation   (2018.01)

In response to China's rapid urbanisation, urban renovation has emerged as a critical strategy for urban development. In 2016, the Shanghai Planning and Land Resources Administration announced four action plans for urban renovation, and launched the ‘Walk-in-Shanghai: Micro-Renovation of Community Space’ programme, as well as raised the slogan of ‘Joint Development, Participative Governance, and Shared Use’ in urban governance. The 82nd issue focuses on ‘micro’ renovation of communities, which involves two critical aspects: ‘micro’ and ‘participation’. For community renovation to be successful, multiple stakeholders must identify their roles and learn how to contribute effectively. Renovations should be conducted in an organised manner within a clear framework. The second half of the magazine features a community micro-renovation project initiated by a new media group located on Yuyuan Road in Shanghai.
